Compact Fluorescent Lightbulb Giveaway

We're So Green!

“Girl Scouts of Northern California single-handedly puts an end to Global Warming!”

CFL Girl Scout

Okay, maybe not single-handedly. We’ve partnered with The Climate Project, Sierra Club, and PG&E to create the largest compact fluorescent lightbulb (CFL) giveaway in human history. This is a monumental opportunity for Girl Scouts to do what we do best, change the world!

CFLs use less energy and therefore produce less CO2 (a substance that contributes to global warming) than regular incandescent bulbs; 80% less CO2 for the same amount of light!

We’ve been given 250,000 CFLs to distribute free of charge; together we can eliminate hundreds of thousands of tons of CO2 a year! We will distribute CFLs free of charge to anyone in the PG & E service area -- friends, teachers, neighbors, and co-workers, anyone who wants them.

The Details:

  • CFLs must be distributed to individuals and not businesses or organizations.

  • Each person (including youth) can receive 1 CFL bulb as long as they are present to receive them, and reside in the PG&E service area (excludes Trinity County and Parts of Shasta County).

  • We must also collect each individual’s name, address, and phone number for verification purposes. This information will NOT be used for promotional purposes ever by GSNC or any of the partnering organizations.

  • All troops can participate as long as they distribute the lightbulbs to residents of the PG&E service area (excludes Trinity County and Parts of Shasta County)

  • Each participating troop will receive 500 CFLs for distribution.

Girls participating in the Fall Product Sale are encouraged to give away CFLs to the general public at booth sales or by any means they choose, so long as they record the information outlined above.
